The reason behind the projects
Boat ownership comes with plenty to figure out: electrical systems, plumbing, unfamiliar equipment, and repairs that turn into investigations. It can be easy for the next fault or the next purchase to become the whole story.
For me, the larger purpose is time together. I want us to experience places, learn new things, and make memories as a family. Preparing Além Mar is part of making that possible.
Preparing Além Mar
Our boat is a Bayliner 4788 pilothouse cruiser. The preparation involves getting to know its systems as well as working through individual repairs and improvements. Sunsets are in the plan. For now, the multimeter is getting more attention.
Some projects are about reliability. Some are about making life aboard more comfortable. Others—like monitoring the batteries or setting up cameras—bring my interest in technology into the boating side of life.
I am documenting the work because the details are useful. What seemed obvious at the end of a repair may be much harder to remember later. The failed attempts often deserve a place in the record too.
What this journal will follow
This site begins with the preparation: the problems, decisions, and gradual progress toward understanding the boat. As the adventure develops, there will be room for the experiences as well.
I want the practical articles to help another owner working through a similar issue, while the journal preserves the story behind the work.
The boat is a project in its own right. The family adventure is why it matters.
